The Light Up Your Life Society is so grateful to be a long time recipient of the Edmonton Cosmopolitan Club’s Christmas Giving Event.
Directors (L-R) Alice Stene, Karen Harasymchuck, Joyce Pocha, Sharon Cornelius, Daphne LeGrow and Linda McCreath attended the virtual event on December 12 after which the Society gratefully received a donation of $3,000. Their gift will help fund our gift to the Tri-Community area through our 30th Anniversary Solarium Legacy Project: a 1,500 sq. ft. structural addition to Westview Hospice to offer a space where family and friends can gather together with their loved one, or find a peaceful, quiet space for reflection or meditation in the Solarium. The estimated cost of this addition is $550,000.
The project will be fully funded by the LUYL Society and will include a Family Room, Kitchenette, Family Sleep Room & Bathroom and a Solarium. Croy Yee Architects is currently working on the final design with construction hopefully completed in 2023.
Welcome to all of our Light Up Your Life Society Supporters:
(In support of Palliative/Hospice & Continuing Care in the Tri-Community Area providing funding to Westview HC Continuing Care & Hospice as well as the three Good Samaritan facilities in Stony Plain and Spruce Grove.)
We would sincerely appreciate you taking the time to view our Online Auction which has a variety of items which we hope will be of interest to you.
We thank you for sharing this information, auction link/QR code, and the attached poster in your particular newsletters and with friends, family and co-workers.
The “go-live” date is November 14th and the auction concludes on Nov. 27th
The LUYL Society’s 2022 Campaign Goal is $100,000. All funds raised in the Online Auction will be included in the annual campaign which runs from Nov. 1 – Dec. 31
We are so pleased to share with you that in 2021 our goal was $75,000 … Amazingly, and with unbelievable community support we raised $137,000!!
The Society is 100% volunteer-run, and as such on average 97% of what is raised each year is used to directly benefit those in need in our own communities.
This year we celebrate our 30th Anniversary … and at this time we joyfully share with you the exciting news that the LUYL Society will be funding a structural addition to Westview HOSPICE. Since Hospice opened in July, 2014 to the end of April, 2022 over 600 people have called our Hospice “HOME”.
We are collaborating with, and supported by, AHS Capital Management who are acting in the capacity of Project Manager, but with the involvement and input of the LUYL Society and Westview Administration in every aspect of the project.
The addition will include a Kitchenette, Bathroom, Family Sleep Room, Communal Family Room and a Solarium/Quiet Room, and is estimated to cost $550,000. The Society currently already holds close to half of that amount in trust for the project.
This addition will provide much needed space for families and friends to gather for meals and companionship and/or privacy and peaceful reflection. When spending extended periods of time with their loved one it will afford them the opportunity to rest and refresh themselves while remaining close. This enhancement to our hospice will bring it another step closer to not only providing exceptional care for the patients, but car and support for the families and close friends as well … this being an essential component of the palliative/hospice care philosophy. The LUYL Society believes in this philosophy and has done, and continues to do, all that we can to support the patients, families, friends and staff who care for those who call Hospice “Home” at the end of their lives.
THANK YOU for participating in our Online Auction, and helping us “reach for the stars” again this year …as we hopefully exceed our 2022 Goal.

Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Palliative/Hospice Care Society
The LUYL Society was so pleased to take part in this event on November 4 sponsored by the Greater Parkland Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The evening was a joyous celebration of the business community of the region with a chance to honour its entrepreneurs and organizations. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners, to the sponsors of the event, and to everyone who helped raise funds for the Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Palliative/Hospice Care Society. Lots of pictures of all the fun at Business Awards of Distinction 2022.
LUYL members met with the Mayors and Councils of Parkland County and the City of Spruce Grove for the official illumination of the “Circle of Hope” (Parkland County) and the “Dove of Hope” (City of Spruce Grove). This marks the start of the 31st Annual Campaign for the Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Palliative/Hospice Care Society which runs Nov. 1 – Dec. 31.
The 2022 Campaign Goal is $100,000. Donation boxes are available in many business locations, as well as the Municipal offices in Parkland County, City of Spruce Grove, Town of Stony Plain and the Village of Seba Beach. Donations are also gratefully accepted through our website.

November 1 begins our 31st Annual Fundraising Campaign! This year’s goal is $100,000, and we have exciting news for our loyal and generous donors.
The Light Up Your Life Society is funding a structural addition to Westview Hospice in Stony Plain. We have partnered with and have Project Management support from AHS Capital Management. The design phase is nearing completion, and hopefully tenders for construction will go out by the end of 2022.
The space will include a Family Room, Kitchenette, Family Sleep Room, Bathroom and a Solarium. The estimated cost of the project is $550,000 with completion in 2023.
The LUYL Society has already raised almost half of the money for the project, and we are confident that we will raise the balance in our upcoming Annual Campaigns in 2022 and 2023, along with the generous support of our current and prospective project partners.
This enhancement to our Hospice will provide much needed space for families to gather in privacy and/or individual peaceful reflection. When spending extended periods of time with their relative or friend, it will afford them the opportunity to rest and refresh themselves while remaining close to their loved one.
Our Garden Party on July 24, 2022 was a huge success! Guests learned about the Society’s special 30th Anniversary Hospice Project (Solarium Legacy Project), and were entertained with music, art and food.
Mayor of Spruce Grove, Jeff Acker, had this to say: “Congratulations to the Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Palliative/Hospice Care Society on your 30th Anniversary! Your dedication and compassion over the years has profoundly impacted not only those who are nearing the end of their life, but their families, loved ones and all those who support them. On behalf of Spruce Grove City Council, we are exceedingly appreciative to you for your vision, commitment, compassion and continued service in our communities.”
Please visit Our History page to see the photos of this wonderful event.
One of the original founding members of our Society and its Chair for many years, Linda McCreath, revisited that history recently as we celebrate 30 years of serving the tri-municipal region. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/lightupyourlifesociety and scroll through the posts for her thoughtful reflections on our history, and what that history means in the 21st century.
Our Society and our hard-working volunteers are more committed than ever to provide a warm and compassionate end-of-life home for those who need it. We hope you will join with us this year to celebrate our milestone anniversary and continue to support us in our worthwhile work.
